The importance of Hans Scharoun (1893-1972) as one of the leading figures in the Modern movement has only recently been acknowledged. 21 full-color three-dimension photographs of the Philharmonie (concert hall) and Staatsbibliothek (library) illustrate his creation of expressive flowing spaces and use of non-rectilinear geometry. Included in the packet are Scharoun’s own conceptual description of the Philharmonie and notes by Peter Blundell Jones placing the architect’s career in context.
