The 3-1/2” diameter View-Master reel contains seven pairs of color transparencies duplicated from original images photographed with a stereo camera. Remarkable for its combination of simplicity, high-definition imaging and low cost, the View-Master system was invented by William Gruber of Portland, Oregon, and introduced to the public at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. Over a billion reels have been sold since, and 100 million viewers, in one version or another, have found their way into nearly every home in the U.S.
